I also just watched this for the first time last month. I was blown away. I’ve only seen a few Sayles films. I hate that so much covered in this movie is still painfully relevant today. However, it did remind me that I’ve been in love with Elizabeth Peña since La Bamba days.

I wish they would give Passion Fish the Criterion treatment next. I love that film and David Strathairn and Vonde Curtis Hall are just great as the suitors. And that great zydeco track they play at the dance. Man that track is so awesome. I didn’t ask for the anal probe.

I went to a book signing of his years ago and was overcome by his sexiness in person and turned into a monosyllabic idiot. The rolled up sleeves do something to me! So smart and talented.

I saw Limbo in a theater and a guy in the row in front of me had a meltdown when it ended. I muttered, "it's called Limbo, dude" and he launched into a higher level of tantrum. I loved it (the movie, not his tantrum.)

I'm trying to find Men with Guns - seems like it's totally out of print.

THE SLEEVES, YES. Also, love his lifelong commitment to an unbuttoned shirt, especially three or more undone in the way he does it. He has confidence in his chest hair, which I appreciate!

Sayles IS a hot daddy of epic proportions and holds the same space for me that Sam Shepard does(RIP king). Love Lone Star and seem a little shocked that you’ve never seen!

I know, it’s so embarrassing and I’m just glad I fixed the problem. (I mean, I’ve seen Piranha a couple of times?! Don’t kick me out of the John Sayles fan club!!)
